This seems to be the best page to keep track of both the Madleen and news about it.

They have embedded the map in their webpage, but if you want to view it on a page of it's own, this is the link https://live.garmin.com/session/b2e08860-265e-8540-9877-8a235f2aa201/token/9219F8EFFEADE8C2F2431E7E4EB3BCE4

I'm looking for something quality without spending much more than EUR 50. I'm guessing the best way to go is a refurbished or second hand Playstation controller? (currently boycotting Microsoft). I appreciate any recommendations.

I see some good looking budget options but then read about occasional lag issues, stuck buttons or incompatibility with games. But these are designed for major consoles so maybe that's all irrelevant when it comes to macOS compatibility. I'm totally green here. Thanks!

I have an SSD bay (left), an ARM computer (Center) and a plug board (right). They’re wired together as well as to the router above. The problem is that it’s hard to clean the floor.

Is there a way to improve the setup so it’s less obtrusive? Every time we move the stuff to clean the floor the server goes down and needs a reboot. It’s such a pain.

Edit: thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'm going to swap the plug board for a double adapter. That way, they can be plugged in behind the locker leaving one less thing to deal with.

I'll either put the remaining stuff on the locker or else get a raised platform / stool for underneath.

I'm finding a lot of threads with no replies and I'm wondering if openSUSE community congregates elsewhere or is it just a quiet community in general.

The creator is Palestinian, based in the EU. A portion of the profits go towards Palestinian aid.

“It is unclear whether the technology staves off mental decline, or whether people with better cognitive skills simply use them more.”

It’s very early stages of the research then. In my experience elderly people use smartphones very differently to kids. Also, their personal development has past the formative stages so I imagine the devices cause less disruption.

There’s no doubt that they ruin the brains and lives of our kids though, as the research video posted on Lemmy.world recently makes clear.

Edit: Here it is. Brain scans show that screen addiction is the same as drug addiction as far as development of brain pathway changes and brain chemistry are concerned. Only difference is we haven’t had addicts this young and at this scale before. Memory, empathy, cognition and impulsivity are all impacted. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ViT6LyLm6E

I’m a fan of Michael Keatons Batman. Interestingly, both the two comics and two books you see ignore Batman Returns and create their own (distinct) sequels.

I find it difficult to respect the way we exist in society. Most of us in the west enjoy what we have because someone elsewhere is being exploited. The general pride and vanity we have is unjustified and we should be using that power for good instead. We are focused on the ~~right~~ wrong things.

You could say that this opinion isn’t unpopular, but just try bringing it up in conversation. Many don’t want to know.

I prefer LTS releases usually so Tumbleweed doesn’t suit me. Slowroll sounds doable but I see it’s still experimental. Is it as reliable as Tumbleweed?

I was seeing downvotes of hundreds of thousands and in some case even millions. But that's not the case when I log in from the standard Lemmy UI. (See left of picture) Also, tens of thousands of dollars are being solicited from the app (see right) Finally, some odd spam posts appear only via this app (middle right).

I don't know if this app is abandoned, but to the users: be warned. I've switched to alexandrite.app out of safety concerns.

I use my computer for so many things and I have about 200 applications on my computer. I don't know why, but it bothers me that everything happens on this one machine as well as seeing so many app icons (even grouped into folders). It's not an option, but I'd prefer to have dedicated computers for broad categories of tasks (Audio DAW, video editing, bash scripting, web dev, gaming, system stuff like disk space visualisation, web apps for social media and video sites, games, communications, office, music and film.

So I was thinking of installing something like openSUSE in a VM on my iMac. But I'm not sure if it's a good idea. Putting CPU intensive applications onto the VM is pointless since they'll struggle more. But putting convenient apps on the VM seems like a mistake too because it means that quick utilities like calendar, voice memos, alarms, contacts etc become inconvenient.

Anyway. I miss the days when all these functions weren't service by the same hardware and screen. Does anyone who can relate have any ideas?

One thing I've done is have my music served by Navidrome on a headless server.

Thanks for this. We need a way of flagging satire or misinformation more clearly. I don’t think it’s enough to have it buried in the comment sections.

It seems like a good alternative so some of the most popular engines. I think I'll stick with Ecosia, since on top of being EU based, they also make the world a better place.

They've done a good job of broadcasting that tourism is a problem there. I'll respect that next time I make travel plans. Assuming others think like me, then the protest has been effective.

Thís post put a smile on my face so thank you and congrats. I bought an alarm clock so I can turn my phone off in the evening and leave it off in the morning. It's been great. I also turn it off during the day for at least an hour. These two things help me feel less connected to it and I use it far less as a result. It feels great, doesn't it?

"I had a client with three young children, who believed that she had to keep abreast of the details of the Middle East conflict. This meant that once her children were finally in bed, she would find herself scrolling for hours in an attempt to stay up-to-date and knowledgeable on what is happening.

She believed that to be a conscientious and caring human, it is something she had to do."

I think we do have to keep somewhat abreast of what's going on. Some brands we support could be complicit. We might be voting for the very people who are fuelling the horrors that are unfolding around the world.

We as people just aren't built to process the volume of information that's available nowadays though and spending hours attempting to do so isn't the answer. On the other hand, I'm not sure that we should be unaffected by what's happening to our fellow humans either. Looking after our own well-being has to be a part of the equation though.
