I'm thinking of maybe household necessities like washing-up liquid or bleach. Or maybe toothpaste.... are there websites where I can buy them wholesale for better prices?

Used to be really decent at spoken. I'm at about a decent sixth class / first year level now after practicing with my youngest for a bit and I've definitely improved but it's also definitely plateaued.

I'm doing little things like reading the Gaeilge along with English on any signs I come across but struggle with RnaG news or the like.

Like I can make out the words but I'm just so rusty I lose context quickly.

Everywhere I look online, the comments section seems to be extreme in both directions. Some people calling the protestors selfish, others calling them misinformed, protestors pushing for anti-immigration, etc.

RTE seems to be mostly in the pocket of the government (again), so there's nothing but "Whitegate is the only Irish oil refinery", as if that's supposed to pull weight?

I'm supporting the initiative myself, I do think fuel costs should be seen to, as it's becoming way more expensive to live, even in the past week or two alone. I'm however, not in favour of pushing the anti immigration propaganda.

I do feel like places like Reddit, YouTube, and news sites with comment feeds, there's a lot of astroturfing being done. Feels like people I actually talk about this, who also live and work in Ireland, have very sane takes, and practically everyone I know support the protests, whereas online it seems to be a forest fire of a dichotomy.

I'm wondering, is this really the current discourse online. Or is there some sort of toxic nature to regular people going online and pushing for one thing or the other.

What's your opinion on the matter?

In November, three activists from Palestine Action Eire crashed a modified van through a barrier at Shannon Airport, drove onto the runway towards a United States military aircraft and sprayed green paint on a parked Boeing 737-700.

The action was in protest against what they saw as Ireland’s complicity in Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza through the US military’s continued use of Shannon Airport. At the time, Israel’s onslaught had killed more than 69,000 Palestinians.

“I took part in the action out of a general frustration with the Irish establishment and society,” activist Conan Kavanagh told Al Jazeera.

After spending two days in Limerick Prison on remand, he paid 10,000 euros ($11,500) in bail money. The three activists awaiting trial have been charged with criminal damage and interfering with the “operation, management or safety of an airport”.

“For a country that prides itself on a shared history of colonialism and resistance, I think we’re incredibly limited in how we express support for the Palestinian people,” Kavanagh said. “A lot of Palestinian activism in Ireland is centred around marches, speeches and rallies, which while good needs to be escalated upon with more actively disruptive protests if we hope to actually force the hands of the state.”

Tired of seeing its elementary-school children struggle with online temptations, the town of Greystones proposed a ‘no smart devices’ code. Most everyone bought in.

Very interesting how the locals, including the staff at the local Spar , worked together to make this happen.

The records also appear to misalign with previous reassurance from the Irish government. In 2022, Ireland’s then public expenditure minister of state, Patrick O’Donovan, told the country’s parliament that the plant “is not in any way connected to a war machine”.

Having been presented with findings from the new data, Aughinish representatives did not comment when asked by the Guardian and the OCCRP how the facility ensured products had not contributed to Russian assaults on Ukraine. O’Donovan did not comment.

Almost 40 minutes on the button, and just six of those were from the Taoiseach. Despite his best efforts to interject and direct the face-to-face in the Oval Office to the Irish media’s side of the room, this was Trump 101, with everything from Iran to China to windmills on the US president's hit list.

Despite intitial complimentary opening remarks from both Donald Trump and Micheál Martin, who leant heavily on the foundational patriotism of the Irish in the early years of the United States in a bid to plámás Mr Trump, the war in the Middle East took centre stage.

Just minutes before Mr Martin sat down with Mr Trump in front of the world media, the US president had launched a salvo on his Truth Social platform at his Nato allies, who have so far refused to help with escorting oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.

On this week’s episode of Indo Politics, Political Editor Mary Regan joins Tabitha Monahan and Cónal Thomas from Washington, where Taoiseach Micheál Martin met with US President Donald Trump for St Patrick’s Day.

It was a quiet week around Leinster House with government ministers jetting off around the world on the St Patrick's Day trips, but there's still plenty to talk about. Cónal Thomas joins Fionnán Sheahan on this week's Indo Politics to first discuss the government's response to the ongoing oil crisis following the war in the Middle East. Next up we discuss Micheál Martin's trip to Donald Trump's White House for the annual St Patrick's Day visit for the Taoiseach and how it could all play out in Washington.

Also covered is the news that Michael Lowry won't face charges from the Moriarty Tribunal as well as Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan's latest plan on immigration and whether it's a play toward the leadership of Fianna Fáil.
