Apparently, finding a saddle is my new hobby. I have wide sit bones (160 mm or so), I weigh about 89kg, and stand 194cm. ("healthy" BMI)

The only rideable saddles I own are a Velo Plush Hybrid PU leather and an M/L Ergon ST Gel. Smaller saddles are right out (I have a number of those.)

This is for long days on and off road. My last overnighter left me with tender spots. 🙁

Little while ago, i started experimenting with video impressions from my rides - after quite a long break, this is the current state of this series. Apologies, the videos language is german, however, i barely say anything. :D

Taken yesterday.

The backstory: I have now done over 3000 km of touring on this fat-tire Engwe e-bike since buying it last year.

Engwe's target market for this bike seems to be food-delivery riders and city-tour guides. People constantly tell me that it looks like a motorbike. In fact it's the EU-regs-respecting model (so: power-capped pedelec with no throttle). I have done lots of touring on regular bikes and I can say that riding this thing is more comfortable, but not radically. The suspension and tires help with bumps and the motor takes the edge off hills, basically.

The airport is in fact an airplane-storage park near Teruel, Spain. During international crises it fills up with furloughed jets, so it's currently quite full.

Nowadays there are several models that are able to consume the blades of angle grinders, increasing the fatigue and time that the thieves take to open them, so much so that it often becomes easier to cut the structure of the rack.

The Kryptonite looks unbeatable, but other models also reach good levels, too.

Finally, a reminder that a good lock is not enough, but you also have to lock the bike in the right way

Bar tapes (lemmy.world)

What bar tape do you use? What bar tapes have you used?

I have to replace three bikes with bar tape and am open to new types, but leaning towards getting Lizardsskins DSP as it was really comfortable and lasted a bit longer than other types I have tried.

Looking for some maintenance advice.

I'm about to embark on some touring. I don't have space to take more than one canned product. Is WD-40 what I need?

As I understand it from some research, WD-40 is by some magic both a degreaser and a lubricant. This is mysterious to me. In my mental model of chemistry, you degrease with detergent, not more grease. So now I'm imagining that WD-40 is a sort of "light grease" which dissolves "heavy grease". Is that right?

So if I can only take one product, is WD-40 it? PS: If not, then what? Also, is there a generic name for it, or cheaper similar products to look for which do the same thing?

PPS: The consensus seems to be that WD-40 is not a miracle product, by which really I meant "a single portable product that can somehow de-gunk and lubricate" and is less risky than what I was doing before: using chain oil for the lubrication and dish soap for the cleaning.

PPPS: This question was asked in the best possible faith. I have been a cyclist for decades and always been curious about this product. And yet still I get downvoted. What is about social media that makes people so toxic and mean-spirited? It's almost as mysterious as WD-40.

The people doing all the beginning research & work from decades ago should have skipped automobiles-motorcycles & such, as they should phased-out or at worse- replaced with 1 per 10,000 of people or more with: solar panels on bodies, flying & self-driving versions of automobiles, with storage & room for many people. Gone right to our species (the normally used term is sexist) powered cycles, more or less than just two-wheels.

What you think?

I dislike the laziness & getting in the way & on non-motored pedestrians ways of motorized cycles, scooters & Etc..

With the above in consideration, do you consider:

Motorized cycles, scooters & Etc. actually cycles, scooters & Etc. or just different type of automobiles? After all they did exist extremely early on, before motorcycles,

&

Self-driving cycles, scooters & Etc. actually cycles, scooters & Etc. or not?
&
If not, then what do you consider them?

TPU tubes for #cycling - Yay or Nay? Sources?

Anyone using TPU tubes? Would you recommend them?

I note online Chinese vendors (Temu/Ali) are about half the price of my local bike store for them. Anyone have experience with purchasing/brands for Chinese TPU tubes?

Despite finishing the stage and winning the race, Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) actually fractured his scaphoid in a crash on stage 5 of the Tour Down Under, his team revealed on Tuesday.

Ochre jersey-wearer Vine was involved in the crash caused by two kangaroos on Sunday's final stage, and whilst it didn't dent his ability to hold onto the race lead and claim overall victory, he finished the stage in pain and had a 'significant' injury in his wrist.

What eBike would you recommend to cycle with children?

Basically the title. I have a 2y old and a 3m old and would like to take them and their mother cycling on occasion. I realize the youngest can't hold her neck up for long yet, so cycling for her is premature, but I'm thinking down the line in a year or so. Would also be nice if the bicycle doubled as a commuter since I'll be moving to a place where I could plausibly commute for 25 minutes by bike.

Preference given to European brands, with retail presence in Luxembourg, where we live.

Is there a better place for bicycling shitposts?

Behold, the affordable and flexible (literally) cargo solution! The avocado cardboard produce box from Costco!

It holds multiple kilograms, while stationary!

The cardboard cargo solution loaded with two large plastic jars, a package of bathroom tissue, and a skateboard

I've been working on setting up storage for a new bike. The MIK adapter plate I'm planning to use for mounting arrived before the basket I plan to attach to it. In the interest of getting some kind of storage on there, but mostly because I wanted to tinker with the adapter plate, I grabbed the first cargo-shaped thing that came to hand.

MIK adapter plate bolted to the bottom of the cardboard box

I haven't had time to try ride testing this setup because the proper basket did actually just arrive.
