Essentially, the contradictions between the feudal classes became particularly sharp during a period of environmental and political (between states) stress. Some states managed to preserve themselves by dramatically shrinking their borders, like Assyria, but most of them could not handle war with other states and war with dispossessed people and political struggle within their own people at the same time. Essentially, the sea peoples were never one group or cohesive movement. It was a regional response to failing systems.
