The rider is Ralph Sawyer, a 52-year-old mountain biker who is said to be familiar with the area.

his car was located at a trailhead by his wife Marcy. His cell phone had accidentally been left inside.

Class-A adulterer 😂 "Honey, I swear I was just lost for the week." j/k

I'm really surprised that someone who goes into remote areas to bike wouldn't have a bike computer (with GPS) or a fitness tracker watch (also with GPS) or a location beacon (with GPS).

The search for him covered 250 miles (and they didn't find him)... 🧐

This sounds suspicious 🤔

We need to be more like Montreal. 💁‍♂️

School's out, so shootings have shifted to vehicle violence. You guys suck.

And it's infuriating that we are planning highly disruptive and expensive road widening projects, when investments in public transportation and active transportation could remove the "need" to widen roads!

Car-centric infrastructure is not sustainable, and every time I hear people moan and bitch about taxes, they should know that it's largely due to runaway road work and maintenance costs!

NOTE: the far left lable on the bottom chart is "less than 15 minutes." Factor in several minutes for stop signs and red lights, WHY THE HELL DRIVE AT ALL? 😡

[-] [email protected] 28 points 7 hours ago

Yup. Every time I hear people saying "but nobody uses the bike lanes!", I'm reminded that if we prioritized active transportation, drivers would be in the minority.

And that's probably why we don't prioritize active transportation. Gotta keep the status quo! 🤷‍♂️

Lol. It's not about "protecting children", it's about controlling women.

This is like trying to get his tax returns... 😒

61, was wearing a “large metallic chain” around his neck

Was this guy a dog? Gangster?

How does one simply enter an MRI room so easily while it's running?

Such a bizarre story.

AdGuard has been around for a very long time.

Have there been any actual concerns come up involving their service, which run locally (unless you're using their DNS)?

[-] [email protected] 2 points 19 hours ago

For sure. Don't mistake what I wrote (my ideal) vs. my IRL advocacy (i.e. working with my municipality, region, and cycling advocacy groups to get safe road designs implemented).

I know I can't change how people behave behind the wheel, any more than you can change American gun culture. The best we can do is design safer roads by design... those figurative guardrails... and encourage people to do better in the meantime.

We do still need automated enforcement, and more police enforcement, because people going excessive speeds or burning through red lights can, and do, kill other people. Plus, we need more revenue to build safer infrastructure 😀

The studies really show that narrow roads make drivers slow down, while wider roads have them increasing their speed.

Because they are uncomfortable or comfortable depending on the road design, not because they want to drive safer. They don't want to hit a plastic bollard, but have no problem driving millimetres away from cyclists, for example. 😱

I’m actually sympathetic to these folks, because there’s a bunch of studies that show that people drive the speed that feels safe.

Problem: Driving faster doesn't make anyone safer, so that's not true. Studies usually show that people drive at what "feels comfortable" for the design of the road, which is vastly different from what's safe.

I've been driving for decades and never felt compelled to drive at excess speeds of what's posted. I've certainly never had the urge to go 90km/h in a 40km/h or 100km/h in a 60km/h zone.

If people are unfit to drive at the posted speed limits, they should consider taking other forms of transportation.

I've been hopping between idrive e2 plans to save money for my cloud backups (which I've never had to restore from). But this time, even with their discounts, it's just going to be too expensive to sustain.

I read that a Hetzner Storage Box might be a good option. It's relatively cheap ~$13 USD / 5tb a month (I'm in Canada, so currency conversion will make that higher).

They are located in Germany, and support Hyperbackup via Rsync.

I've never used their service, so I'm looking for feedback.

World Cup or not, travel to the US needs to be boycott. If they could afford tickets to such an expensive venue, they can afford to cancel those tickets. This is a country at war with the world. Stop fucking supporting them!

This might be the video that convinces me to get a rear camera on my bike.

No driver should ever be allowed to return behind the wheel after that behaviour. A true danger to the public.

If money was no object, this would be the bike I'd throw my wallet at!

Not only does the tandem setup look better than a traditional tandem, but to be able to convert it into a front-loading cargo bike is... WOW!

This bike is also Made in Germany.

"That’s why we manufacture all of our products here in Canada, collaborating with local partners who share our values, from R&D to the printing of our labels."

I wax my chains, so I don't use their lube, but their bike cleaning products are fantastic!

I've been to a few bike shops that don't have any bike racks outside. It's bizarre. Like, you have to bring your bike in the shop just to pick something up or to have a look around.

I'm not even talking about one place that does this, I have at least three in the area where there are no bike racks at all.

Is this normal? Why???

I've seen several of these around, on roads. And to be honest, if I had to replace my car, it might be for one of these!

But what the hell? They are ONLY allowed on sidewalks, which IMO, they really shouldn't be. And are NOT allowed on roads because they are classified as "pedestrians"?

We need new laws to accomodate and encourage the adoption of "mini cars" as car alternatives within urban and sububan travel..

Selling price approx. $12,500 Canadian.

Honestly, not bad when you consider the utility. Way cheaper than a second car, or as a replacement for a car that's rarely used.

I just worry that as these e-bikes get more complex, it just serves as an additional barrier for people.
