Im not going to change the fun alliteration of the title to something like "primarily aquatic animals," just because theyre not technically fish. I think with the amount of times i said cephalopod its pretty onvious it is, in fact, a cephalopod. Sorry, not sorry

Edit: I also think its completely reasonable to talk about cephalopods when talking about the general idea of fish. I mean, jellfish and shellfish both have fish in their names and neither classification is a fish. Again, if we really wanna be sticklers, fish arent even a thing. But this is tangential, because, again, Im just talking about what I want to

Are you wrong? No. But fish isnt even a real taxonomic grouping. And since its my post/series I get to play by my own rules. And my rule is if its cute and/or I want to talk about it, im gonna

Hello fish friends! Today is the vampire squid a real cutie! Named after its distinct color and appearance, it is the only living cephalopod that is a scavenger. It also has the largest eyes proportional to its body in the animal kingdom. It lives 2-3000feet deep so unfortunately seeing these beauties in person isnt easy. They also cant change colors like other cephalopods or shoot out ink, because both would be pointless in the darkness of that depth. Instead, when threatened, they shoot out a bioluminescent mucus. As cool as this is, I dont want to be sneezed on by a squid.

I actually really like names like summer, autumn, river, rain. Idk why because I feel like they should be bad names.

I need a cat. The past few years have been the first in my life without one and I truly miss it. Alas, my apartment doesnt allow pets

It doesn't matter. None of them do, any single square a cis male could tick. Theyre all just commonalities.

Manta ray! Rays are majestic, and manta rays are one of the most well known. But did you know that they have a mutalistic relationship with remora? Those fish you see hanging onto it in the pic are them. Remora clean the manta ray in exchange for protection, transport (they have a sucking disk at the top of their heads to attach, and this can leave scars!) and they get to feed on the scraps the mnta ray leaves behind.

Would you accept a permanent spa day at this cost?

New friday, new fish. Goldfish! Piggybacking off my last post where I had some advice, I want to talk about goldfish and how mistreated they are.

Again, these fish need space! Please give it to them. The minimum I've seen recommended for even small "fancy goldfish," is 25 gallons. With 10 more gallons for each goldfish you add. Goldfish can live for 15+ years, yet so many people think theyre ahort lived fish and that probably has a lot to do with people putting them in tiny tanks!

Speaking of misinformation about goldfish, another one that upsets me is the all too common "memory of a goldfish" line. Goldfish can remember things for months, can learn to navigate puzzles/mazes, and can not only recognize and remember other goldfish but their owners too!

Goldfish are lovely pets please treat them with the respect and love they deserve!

Its beta fish day! These fish are very pretty, but did you know that it is the males that have all of this plumage? The females look much less pretty (still cute though!)

But today I wanted to talk about owning and care for these fish. The fish like the one in the picture are selectively bred for the bright colors and flowing fina and its actually a hinderence and health detriment to these fish. Think of the dogs that are bred with health issues.

Theyre also very territorial, so you should only keep one male at a time, and if you want females in the same tank, make aure to have multiple as a male can stress one female to death with its mating. Also, please, do not put it in a tiny fishbowl. Beta actually need a good amount of room, like 10+ gallons!

Coelacanth! I like this picture because it makes it look goofy. Coelacanths were thoguht to be extinct because the youngest fossil we had of one was 66 million years old, but in 1938 off the coast of South Africa, one was caught and identified.

Just kidding. No one asks.

I had to make an Entrapta meme because she may be with the horde, but I love this character.

Crushing that poor animal would be by far the least evil way anyone has ever obtained a billion dollars.

This fish is the amazon molly. It gets its name from the greek mythological amazon warriors as the entire species is female. Sorry, boykissers. It lives in northeast mexico and southern texas and reproduces asexually by cloning itself.

This here is my favorite fish. The beautiful anglerfish. The female are dominant and in at least some species the males are much smaller and attach themselves to the body of the female and live as a parasite until they are absorbed by the larger female!

People need to stop putting chess on a pedestal. Its a game. General intelligence has no bearing. Its a specific skillset you can hone by practice and research, just like any other game.
