Disclaimer that while I’m very much “into” art and hold my share of snobby opinions, movies are not a medium I engage much in. My tastes are quite basic and I’m not hard to impress. That being said…

Wow! The movie was amazing! Me and the missus want a Rocky plushy yesterday! It’s so refreshing to see a story like this that is unapologetically hopeful and anchored in cooperation and empathy without falling back on either cruel “grimdark” or marvel quip snark (unlike that THMP’s writing is actually funny). My gf read the book a while back and she thought the movie was an excellent adaption.

Thoughts? Am I a schmuck for liking it as much as I did?

It was really fun! Please give it a try and drop a comment with your thoughts. It means a lot to have people engage with my art c:

Heyo!

I just recently got more into Deadlock (currently ~Alchemist rank but climbing quickly so far) and would like someone(s) to queue with.

I like playing fairly tryhard (casual play is fun too but I get that with my friends already). If you’re new to the game but like MOBAs and would like to learn and geek out with me

I’m a very experienced dota player so Deadlock is scratching that same itch in a fresh way, which is very fun!

About me (without doxing too badly):

  • EU region, play during evenings and weekends
  • He/him, mid-20s
  • Pretty easy going, I like to think I don’t get super salty or anything like that

Reply here or DM me if you’re interested <33333

Ok i need to ask: What does this emote mean? I see it and never get it :c

Ok I’m going to confess that i feel like i don't fully grasp the model this quote (and related ones from the book) proposes. I understand it on a vibes level, but what does he actually mean by the stages of simulacra? How do I interpret it in a way that’s useful and applicable?

Pls help q_q

Could you elaborate on the last part? I know you’ve talked at length before about how western economics have sort of “eroded” attitudes towards marxist schools of thought, especially among policy makers. Is this still true, or even worsening due to the intensifying inequality or are there still policy makers who fall into the “damn times are getting tough where’s my little red book” crowd (if I understand your post correctly)

I know you get a lot of flak here sometimes, but I find you analysis fascinating and your explanations pedagogic. Please keep posting!

I big problem afaik was simply the lack of computational power. The USSR was notedly slow and even unwilling to respect and adopt digital computers as a technology. It turns out that planning a complex economy (more or less) by hand is really hard and leads to mistakes!

Incredible video. The man is so well-spoken. "Adjust your emperor's robes" goes so hard as an insult.

Reading the names ”Boruto” and ”Hitler-Garcia” in sequence really got me ngl

Oh yeah I am not arguing BE’s position, I don’t particularly care. I’m more asking for my own count if there are reasons to be critical of Cuba as an AES project (moreso than others), and how that would tie into being a Trot position etc.

[-] IvarK@hexbear.net 15 points 11 months ago

Well ok, let me rephrase: Is support of Cuba not an ML position?

[-] IvarK@hexbear.net 20 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Is it trot to believe in Cuba as a bastion of socialism in the “west”?

Edit: Genuine question, asking in good faith here

I’m really into horror audio dramas and/or anthology podcasts. Because of this I’ve burned through so many over the past year or two I feel like I’m scraping the bottom of the barrel, which sucks

Ones i like (kind of ordered by how much i like them):

  • Knifepoint Horror
  • Acephale
  • The Silt Verses (and I Am in Eskew)
  • We’re Not Meant To Know
  • Magnus Archives
  • Malevolent
  • Modes of Thought in Anterran Literature
  • Archive 81 season 3
  • Sleep Wake cycle (haven’t tried all of their pods yet, they’re kind of a lot)
  • Ghost Wax (kinda kid but more good than bad)

Ones I DIDN’T like:

  • Tower 4
  • Welcome to Nightvale
  • Road of Shadows
  • Hello from the Hallowoods
  • Wrong Station (occasionally good)
  • The White Vault (not horrible but idk a bit corny somehow)
  • Alice is Dead
  • Lovecraft Investigations (it was fine but idk turned too thriller)
  • The Black Tapes (not a fan of the overproduction)

Basically I like shows that

  • Have enough faith in their writing to not rely on a thick coat of quippy self-aware sarcasm marvel slop
  • Are heavy on atmosphere, focus on the fiction, not on the host and their haunted podcast studio or whatever
  • Do not devolve into action hollywood thrillers UNLESS the writing is good enough to support it after a couple of seasons of more horror leaning stuff

Oh and if you want recs from me just ask and you shall receive I’m dying to talk about these shows kitty-cri-screm
