The irony is that gaming revenues are strong, but in the local casinos. It’s the strip that’s suffering. People have money to go to a casino, but not for overpriced, mediocre tourism.

I don’t think the reality of it would be that unpopular (for better or worse), I’m just guessing how the average Canadian would react if presented with the issue on its own and not framed in response to Donald Trump. I’m responding more to the unseriousness of the poll than the concept.

“Vehicle that runs on water” is basically an old crackpot inventor meme, a subset of the perpetual motion/free energy devices that are either intentional scams, or the result of naïveté or delusion on the part of the inventor. You can’t really use water as fuel.

I guarantee most of the people who answered in the positive just like the idea of being able to get a job in Amsterdam without a visa, or buy cheaper Italian cheese. They don’t actually want to give up monetary or regulatory sovereignty, nor compete with Europeans for Canadian jobs and market share.

You do not have to hand it to Kat Kanada here, but it’s still a stupid idea that would be ultimately very unpopular if anyone took it seriously.

Oh yeah, this guy is committing a serious federal offense and could very easily be put in prison if the authorities decided to prosecute him. Whether that would actually happen depends on how connected he is to powerful people, of course, but there is zero ambiguity about the legality here.

It’s so funny to read this stuff knowing that Hexbear existed for years as a separate community before any of these people knew what lemmy was. It’s such a classic stupid person move to assume that everything came into existence the moment you became aware of it, always reacting as if your personal experience represents the natural status quo.

0 calls for genocide

Then what were they rallying for?

Nelson Mandela is a good historical figure to bring up in this context. Liberals love him for his rehabilitated image as a peace negotiator, but he didn’t go to prison for writing letters to the editor.

I think it's worth noting that, prior to the war, the default position was "There are definitely Nazis in Ukraine and we should be concerned about that." The position changed to "There are no Nazis in Ukraine" on the day the invasion started and people have been flailing around since trying to figure out how to reconcile that against years of generally accepted reporting on the rise of the Ukrainian far-right.

Equating the two might qualify as actual Holocaust denial.
