I guarantee most of the people who answered in the positive just like the idea of being able to get a job in Amsterdam without a visa, or buy cheaper Italian cheese. They don’t actually want to give up monetary or regulatory sovereignty, nor compete with Europeans for Canadian jobs and market share.
You do not have to hand it to Kat Kanada here, but it’s still a stupid idea that would be ultimately very unpopular if anyone took it seriously.
Giving up monetary or regulatory sovereignty in the way EU membership (or pseudomembership) requires really isn't that big of a deal. On the other hand, free movement of people and goods is actually awesome and hugely empowering.
The EU is bad of course, but guaranteeing freedom of movement and imposing consumer protections are not why. I don't think reality would be as unpopular as you're saying.
I don’t think the reality of it would be that unpopular (for better or worse), I’m just guessing how the average Canadian would react if presented with the issue on its own and not framed in response to Donald Trump. I’m responding more to the unseriousness of the poll than the concept.
nah fuck that shit. There's a price to pay for the freedom of movement and it's paid in blood by "extra-europeans". You know, the ones who dies in the mediteranea and in calais.
Either let immigrants in or don't, but the white people club have to go.
