This is a wild article. Someone please tell me it was written by AI. 😶

Kinda shook at the Meta-supporting comments. They should not be anywhere near the fediverse. Meta is a business first and the users are the product. Companies now just want to maximize profits, minimize costs, and hoard wealth for... rocket ships? Fediverse itself is community-owned, independent, and decentralized.

With how new all of these controversies are, it's kinda baffling that people are still defending this company. They're going to continue to exploit anything and everything for profits. It wouldn't even surprise me if the genuine reason they're interested in this concept is because they want to take what's open-sourced, adapt it, and commercialize it. I would imagine they're thinking, 'why invest in a brand new backend when we can profit off of an existing one, unrestricted.' And this "meeting" that they're forming is basically a free forum for them to learn and ask questions about how they can exploit the Fediverse and find any way to profit off of it. "Off the record" anything is shady as fuck.

This is very alarming. There is no doubt that there are going to be human rights violations perpetually. Is it going to be a forced stay or voluntary? Horrible experimentation is going to be done here.

I disagree. We should be discussing Reddit even more. It's only a matter of time before web crawlers see Reddit being mentioned so much, it might just end up being on the first page of search results. Advertisers are going to see less value from Reddit as it slowly becomes just low-quality posts, users who don't spend money, and adblock users on the platform.

Well, good for xqc for nabbing that deal. He would be a fool not to. But $100 mil seems like a massive investment for his... 'content.' It's definitely going to attract the wrong viewers that are extremely unhealthy for the platform, severely limiting the potential for more advertisers.

The ownership of Kick.com is currently unconfirmed. However, there are signs that suggest the crypto gambling site Stake.com may be backing the project. Job listings posted by Australia-based start-up Easygo state that “Kick.com is a new venture created by the founders of Easygo and Stake.com”. Stake accounts also created and previously moderated the Kick subreddit. According to confirmation by Stake representatives, Eddie Craven, an owner of Stake, is not the owner of Kick.com, but only an investor. Trainwreck could also have a stake in the company.

Wow, Bing's search is pretty damn good and linked sources. Anyway, this is actually so predatory of a business I don't even want to delve any deeper than I did in 10 minutes. He's going to actively push users toward these gambling websites, and we all know how destructive that addiction can be.

I think this is all for show, to be honest. The New York Times broke the story, but do they even do pieces like these? Is it possible this Stake company paid for NYT to publish the article? They even include statements from Kick and xqc. I'm not a subscriber so it's a genuine question. I think the crypto gambling people and xqc have a shady partnership going on and he's not actually receiving $100 million, but definitely is getting paid. It just seems that $100 M for one person isn't fiscally reasonable. Anyway, crypto on its own is shady and combine that with gambling? Sounds like trouble.

It baffles me that they even used the word "expectations." Like... 'ma'am... I am not being paid. Do not have ANY expectations.'

I don’t see a NSFW picture… I linked the source post, that’s all. Probably a Lemmy bug lmao.

Complicated to say since I'm no expert. Technically, they weren't authorized to use it because they did not include attribution.

To anyone still on Reddit and/or moderates a sub, I would recommend deleting all of your content. Reddit is going to continue making money off of whatever you post, even if it's helpful. If you're worried about preservation, submit your content through an archiver. Don't let them continue to make money off of you when you are not valued. Down with corporate overlords.

Meanwhile, Ottawa has yet to follow through on a promise six months ago to try seizing funds it says are held by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich. No application had been filed in any provincial court as of last month.

Mkay, well... Canada better get a move on and pack up their bags to ditch Russia. I'm sure Putin will seize all Canadian assets in their regime whenever they please, just like with other companies.

Defense attorney Colin Stephens told jurors that Howald had peacefully co-existed with the gay and lesbian community in Basin for decades. Howald testified that he is gay. “At his core, Howald is not a crusading bigot, who is hell bent for leather on wiping lesbians from the Earth,” Stephens said in his sentencing memo.

You've got to be fucking kidding me. Self-hatred being projected onto innocent people who just want to live their lives.

In 2006, Howald was sentenced to two years in prison for felony aggravated animal cruelty, after pleading guilty to shooting a chocolate Labrador at a southwestern Montana campground and decapitating the dog with a chain saw.

This is Paul! He's a rescue who was bullied by other cats when he was just a baby. He was obsessed with keeping himself groomed and clean. He passed almost two years ago from lymphoma. While super timid and anxious, he was so affectionate and loving.

Valid question that can be expanded even further. Has Elon paid for... anything?! Last I heard, Google is still waiting on their payment for their cloud services. 😂

I know… it’s the entertainment network that shall not be named. However, I find it so interesting that this actually aired.

Jessica is there to incite anger to the viewers because the network knows that the biggest reactions are anger. It’s an easier emotion to manipulate.

The producers don’t care about law and reason. They are opportunists that hunger for more and more money to hoard. And, in my opinion and sadly, Jessica is just a tool to them. Thoughts?

Out of curiosity before midnight, I've been lurking in incognito to see what subreddits appear and I saw WhitePeopleTwitter has a long post and is choosing to stay open.

WhitePeopleTwitter shows solidarity with the current protests on reddit against the fundamental changes to site architecture.

This moderated thread will remain open for everyone to comment in.

The comments that are in-favor of a real 'blackout' are being deleted.

I was even banned for commenting complicity. Interested to hear people's takes. Anyone else face a similar story or think it's justified?
