I had one dude being caliph of most of the map live to 104, next one was his great-great-grandson or something like that and he was like 5. He spent next 40 years explaining his 10 granduncles that they cannot be caliph instead of caliph.
Just set your top realm to feudal elective so you can get one of your grandchildren in instead
