World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

No they're not. No matter how horrific the actions of their government, never conflate that government with its people. Israelis have been killed horribly by Hamas, that doesn't mean Palestinians are evil. Neither population deserves this violence.
Edit: yes, the Israeli children herded into a basement and then killed with a grenade deserved it, because Israelis are evil. Here's a fun game: replace "Israeli" with "Palestinian" in that sentence. I can't believe you guys aren't familiar with that one already.
Israel is a very wealthy nation. Most of the people living there have the means to leave, unlike those literally trapped in Gaza.
Israelis choose to live in one of the most contested and controversial places on Earth. Why? Because they think they're entitled to it. That's what Zionism is all about.
I have no sympathy for Israelis unless they are doing everything in their power to leave.
so i'm guessing you're referring just to israeli jews? not israeli druze, bedouin or arabs?
and which jews are you referring to that "choose to live there"? as a lot of israeli jews have been there for some generations by this point. it's their home (let alone the families who remained since the kingdom of judah).
and that's some nice propaganda for israel, but unfortunately israel's poverty rate is among the highest in the developed world. while also being one of the highest cost of living countries.
bibi's economic policies and transfer of funds to ultra-orthodox organizations and private education institutions has only made things worse for most over the years.
What would a few people leaving do? Where would they go, and to what benefit? You realise that to leave, another country would have to grant them a visa, and visas can be denied? What about the ones that don't have the means to leave? The US is one of the wealthiest countries on earth, do you think everyone here can just up and fuck off to another country as well?
It sounds like you haven't thought this through.
The United States. Israel is an albatross around its neck. The best solution for all parties involved would be for Israelis to relocate to the US, which has plenty of room to accept them.
No. Why would you think that?
It sounds like you're arguing with yourself.
I would think that because you said "Israel is a wealthy country" and then proceeded to link that statement to the idea that everyone in Israel should up and leave and if they're not doing everything they can to leave then they don't deserve your sympathy for the Hamas attacks.
If you think that the US will just take in ten million refugees sight unseen, I want whatever you're smoking. You clearly have no idea of the logistics required to put even half of your insane bullshit "solution" into action. I recommend thinking about it more, maybe reading a little.
Sorry, you seem to be the kind of person who thinks only "easy" suggestions are viable ones.
I can't take people like you seriously because you need more experience with the real world.
Spoken like a child. What's sad is, we're on the same side, but you're happy to alienate anyone for daring to remind you that Israelis are as much victims of their government as Palestinians are, and that your "solutions" aren't "hard", they're entirely nonviable.
Lucky for you, you don't have to take me seriously at all, I'm going to block you and never interact with you again because I find you unpleasant.
No they aren't. From the beginning, I pointed out how most Israelis have the power to leave whereas most Palestinians, especially Gazans, do not.
You're being willfully ignorant and think that by just saying words you're defeating an argument.
That's not how the world works, and another reason why you shouldn't be taken seriously.
The ones that went and blocked the trucks are pretty evil. Not all Israelis though 👹
You should look up the experiments done by Stanley Milgram. He showed that "Just following orders" is a reasonable defense, by showing that "normal" people will also "just follow orders" more often than not, even absent the threat of any direct or indirect detriment to themselves.
They became the monster we saved them from.
