It's the dunk tank.

This is where you come to post big-brained hot takes by chuds, libs, or even fellow leftists, and tear them to itty-bitty pieces with precision dunkstrikes.

Rule 1: All posts must include links to the subject matter, and no identifying information should be redacted.

Rule 2: If your source is a reactionary website, please use archive.is instead of linking directly.

Rule 3: No sectarianism.

Rule 4: TERF/SWERFs Not Welcome

Rule 5: No ableism of any kind (that includes stuff like libt*rd)

Rule 6: Do not post fellow hexbears.

I honestly don't get the dedication to the guy. If you like his content, whatever, but I struggle to think of a single current interweb celebrity I like enough that'd I'd go THIS HARD to bat for, this includes people who put way more effort and craft into their work than fucking Vaush. The dude just streams himself pontificating for hours, and you're this dedicated to him? Wtf is wrong with you?

It's a parasocial relationship.

People think eCelebs are their friends.

[–] [email protected] 36 points 7 months ago (1 children)

At least other parasocial relationships are with people who make shit that's GOOD. I kind of get viewing like, a funny group of podcasters are make-believe bros after listening to 200 episodes. This is just one guy who thinks Cyprus is part of Greece babbling for hours. Worst fake friendship ever.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Seriously I kind of understand parasocial relationships if they're with people who are like, funny or smart or something. This just seems like the gamblers fallacy except instead of playing blackjack it's for spending time with an annoying pedo bore.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

I think it's actually the inverse. The parasocial relationship comes first, and then people decide they're funny/smart.

try criticizing nathan j robinson here and you'll likely get a little taste of the kneejerk defense of a parasocial friend

Who's Nathan j Robinson and why do people here like him? I've literally never heard of him

[–] [email protected] 21 points 7 months ago (2 children)

socdem writer who dresses like he's trying to beat indiana jones to the ark of the covenant

[–] [email protected] 19 points 7 months ago

Oh right, yeah I looked him up and I think I recognise him

[–] [email protected] 10 points 7 months ago

when I see his picture I imagine him saying "ah, Dr. Jones"

[–] [email protected] 19 points 7 months ago (1 children)

There were false accusations against him wrt union busting, but that doesn't make him not a piece of shit for other reasons

[–] [email protected] 17 points 7 months ago

Yeah, he sucked before the "union" flap, he still sucks. He's got a classic western chauvinist view of AES and foreign policy

[–] [email protected] 17 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Really? cuz I don't think I've ever personally seen anyone stan him.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 7 months ago (2 children)

There was a recent minor struggle session running into hundreds of comments about him and there were some very fervent defenders

[–] [email protected] 23 points 7 months ago

Guess I was touching grass that day shrug-outta-hecks

[–] [email protected] 18 points 7 months ago

I didn’t see that one but I feel like that has to be transplants from the fediverse. I remember in 2022 or so he came up and most people were dunking on him. Idk he’s one of those people I notice people cyclic getting softer on during election years so who knows

I don't want to sully your pure mind-palace if you don't already know about NJR, go forth in the world unburdened by the knowledge of yet another chauvinist cracker

[–] [email protected] 6 points 7 months ago

by god, I shall

Hot take: obsessing over e-celebs is marginally better than obsessing over celebs because at least there's a slim chance the e-celeb will actually acknowledge your shitty chat spam.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 7 months ago

Real celebs have to walk about and go shopping which means you can stalk and harass the shitty ones. Whereas e-celebs don’t have to reveal their face or location which makes it harder when they’re real motherfuckers like destiny
