Oh, I don’t mean ads in general, just the pop up inviting you to download an OS update that they know full well won’t install on that hardware. It’s a classic example of FOMO, a subtle way to make the user aware that their machine is old and needs to be replaced.

Or that they need to break out OCLP and get a few more years from good hardware.
