I highly recommend at least the first few chapters of The Ministry for the Future by Kim Stanley Robinson Amazon link.

Second that, it's a fantastic book and despite starting out laying out a grim state of the world it manages to paint a convincing way out of the horror that we created. I want to live in the world KSR imagines.
