Anyone need help with, uh, computers?

[–] [email protected] 22 points 9 months ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 18 points 9 months ago (1 children)

How can I help?

A common problem I see is plugging the exhaust and running super hot because of it. But it appears to be on purpose in many cases, and the result is rather interesting to observe, I've found.

The buttons on the front panel may also need some fiddling every now and then to keep them functioning firmly.

Some issues need me to go a bit deeper inside though, to solve them to satisfaction.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 9 months ago (1 children)

You know, there are a lot of problems with it, you seem like you know what you're doing so how about you fiddle with the buttons first and see ~~what happens~~ what else needs to be fixed?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 9 months ago (2 children)

I always start with the buttons up top, this is how you turn on the computer, after all.

But you know, it wouldn't matter if nothing needs fixing, I always like to play around, just working my way through everything there is to do, really getting down to it.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 9 months ago (1 children)

That sounds good to me, are there any buttons I can push? I feel bad leaving you to do all the work, if I can get down to it with you I think that would be more pleasant for both of us

[–] [email protected] 7 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Oh, I always make sure to turn it into a job for two people. Makes it easier to reach all the important spots when you have a helping hand.

However, make sure to follow my lead, your hands need to go exactly where I tell you to put them.

(Jokes aside for a second, never reach into an open power supply unless you know what you're doing. In fact, best to not open it in the first place.)

So, now that everything is turned on, let's go over how to mount a drive

[–] [email protected] 7 points 9 months ago (1 children)

It's really comforting to be in the hands of such an expert, I feel like you could teach me a lot. Everything is certainly turned on now, so tell me more about mounting

(Oh yeah, I'm not fucking with electricity at all, no worries there)

[–] [email protected] 7 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Actually, mounting should happen automatically when you insert a drive into the back port. And then you can load your files to the internal drive

[–] [email protected] 7 points 9 months ago (2 children)

So if I'm understanding correctly - remember, I'm still learning, and I am an eager student - you insert your drive into my back port and then you load into my internal drive, and then everything works? Sounds good, when can we start?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 9 months ago (1 children)

We can start whenever you want, my system is never microsoft

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I'm not opposed to Microsoft if that's the way people choose to live their life, but I will follow your lead

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Actually, it might not get hard anymore once I get my hands on this new firmware crack

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Hey, we can work around that. Tell me more about this firmware crack though, I certainly am interested in modifying my hardware

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Well, this crack allows me to increase the padding around the buttons up top, allowing easier handling. My drive however will likely be neither hard nor solid, but probably floppy.

The code that needs to be injected for this to work needs official approval first, though.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I too would very much enjoy thus firmware crack, unfortunately the approval for such a thing is comparatively hard to come by and increasingly is frowned upon. I've thought about going around the official approval route but that is a headache of its own.

(I live on TERF Island, and it sucks)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

The dumbest part for me is that I already have an appointment with the cracked firmware distributors but it won't go anywhere because I can't even get on a waiting list to talk about offical approval.

We're gonna get there. I can't believe in either of our healthcare systems, but I believe in us.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

That means a lot miss_brainfart, I'll do my best to believe in us both too ❀️

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Let me send you a big, big hug❀️

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Right back at you πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I think I might be really bad at fixing computers, because it always ends in a data leak.

Also, the people on blahaj zone are the best❀️
I've had so many genuinely nice interactions here, it makes up for all the bad ones in other places

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago (1 children)

It's OK, we're all just learning and leaks can be cleaned up.

It is nice, isn't it? I'm so glad it was my introduction to the Fediverse. I like venturing out into the rest of it but I'm so glad I have blahaj zone to come back to, and it clearly brings in some nice people from other places too because you're here ❀️

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I signed up to lemmy ml because it has most topics I'm interested in, but turns out I basically live on blahaj zone now. Might as well transition (hihi) to here at this point^^

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

One of us, one of us, one of us! Come join us sis, be part of the family ❀️

(I shouldn't really have assumed "sis", call me out if I'm wrong)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Sis is correct, no worries^^

Well, guess I know what I'll do today

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

πŸ€— It's nice to have you around, sis ❀️

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago (2 children)
[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

Heyyy! Welcome home, it's great to have you :D How does it feel, being a proper blahajer? Allow me to give you your first upvote ❀️

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Blahaj Zone is the nicest online community I've ever visited, so it makes sense to make it my primary residence^^

I'll consider this to be the first part of my transition :P

Although this is actually the second fediverse account I've migrated, to be precise. My old pixelfed profile still had the word guy in it

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Oh wow, I guess congrats on the official start of your transition =P I'm going to congratulate myself on playing a small part in it too πŸ˜†

Woof, somehow I've always avoided included words like "guy" in any username I've made, I suppose deep down I always knew I wasn't cis (although the repeated questioning of it over pretty much my whole life should have been the biggest clue πŸ˜…)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I've been oblivious about many things throughout my life, and even if the thought ever came up, I'd usually just forget about it not even five minutes later :')

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Mood, it took me ages to recognise I was asexual too, I'd read about it and be like "damn, that really sounds like me, too bad I'm a cishet guy" and then forget about it again πŸ˜… We should give ourselves a break though - it's a marathon, not a sprint

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Doesn't change the fact that I'm terrible at marathons though

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Hey now, none of that πŸ€— It's just one (metaphorical) foot in front of the other, the important part is finishing, not how long it takes

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

We'll get there eventually. But it'd be cool if our ministry of health would realize where the word ministry comes from, and act accordingly.

I do recognize that I'm already very privileged when it comes to healthcare in my country, but even here there are still some serious issues in certain fields.

However, one foot in front of the other, as you say. This year will be where an important new law comes into effect here, making it much easier and less dehumanizing to change ones legal gender and name.

The reactions to this law have been a great way to add new polititians to my Do Not Vote list, which is a welcome side effect :D

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

If you don't mind me asking which country are you in? I'm in the UK so it's already pretty transphobic, which sucks, but we have a general election this year so we might at least get the extremely marginally less overtly transphobic Labour Party in, though I don't expect they'll make it any better. I should save money to either try and go private or do some DIYing but sadly big expenses keep coming up.

However, I did randomly decide to shave my arms last night and that feels pretty great =D

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

(we can continue on Matrix, if you'd like)

I'm in Germany, which is pretty good in most areas, all things considered. But every now and then, if you need something specific, you might discover some roadblocks.

Being active on Lemmy, you've probably come across posts showing the massive protests against Germanys far right party, the AfD. The fact that they managed to become as successful as they are is incredibly concerning.

So who knows what the future holds.

Oooh, I haven't even thought about my arms yet. I wonder how they'd look without hair :D

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

(I'm not sure what Matrix is but I'm happy to look into it. Might need to be later because I'll be getting ready for work soon, but it's probably an idea if we don't just keep posting in this random thread πŸ˜…)

I've always had the impression that Germany is pretty good about these things, it's a shame it still throws up roadblocks. I had heard about the AfD thing and it's definitely scary, are you at least a little heartened by the protests against them? I really hope they're stopped, I'd hate for you to end up in an unsafe situation.

I can thoroughly recommend shaving arms, I did it thinking "well, I can fairly easily keep ithem covered til it regrows" and already I'm like "people are just going to have to get used to me having shaved arms, I guess, because I don't want them hairy again" πŸ˜…

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

It's certainly nice to see more people openly speaking out against them. I think many are also just uninformed about what's actually going on behind their curtains, what kind of narrative they drive.

So spreading awareness is, as always, the most important step.

Yeahh, I think I'll shave my arms some time soon^^

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

It's distressing how easily people are willing to write off shocking levels of bigotry as just being "edgy" or "controversial" until it slaps them in the face, at least hopefully it has slapped people there soon enough to avert the worst of the problems. And hopefully the protests make Those People a bit less bold in their politics. Spreading awareness is important but it's also important to be safe, it can be hard to do so if you're potentially being confronted with a crowd of fascists πŸ˜•

Oh yay, you'll have to let me know when you do and we can compare notes ^_^

(I think I'm setup on Matrix, I've been stuck in traffic on the bus to work and had nothing else to do πŸ˜… I should be luckingfurker:catgirl.cloud, if I understand it correctly (yes, I took a look at your (old?) profile to get an idea πŸ™‚ I suppose really I could've just messaged you this on there instead, but I can be a silly goose sometimes))

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I messaged you on Matrix :D

Gotta love how the people I talk to just seem to flock to catgirl.cloud for some inexplicable reason :P

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago

Clearly you're an influencer, be it good or bad remains to be seen =P

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Hiii hello hewwo heyo hihihi helo welcome to blahaj :3

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago

Heyyy^^ Lovely to be here :D

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

OK, I'm not white knighting here.... but I don't want to see you become the butt of the joke. All of this double and triple entendre is getting out of control. For all of this back loading to properly work you need a proper tower case. Personally I'm into cases by the Eiffel company. Eiffel towers are the best! You can front load AND back load simultaneously (some hand holding for structural support may be necessary). I utilize a method that has been widely recognized as the best. You have the comedic effect of a Spit Take along side the slow burn of a good Roast over how sloppy you com ports are. The colloquial term is SpitRoasting.... it's quite the undertaking but if we all work hard we can make this all come together.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago

That sounds like it becomes confusing and possibly messy, but I'm not not into it

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago (2 children)

God, I love this one so much
