Because a few people want it apparently. You can block the bot reposting content and you won't see it anymore.
One of the good things about reddit was the bulk of knowledge already there...
Reposting memes makes no sense, but TIL, DIY, and random tech subs have a lot of good info going back a decade
Yeah, this is it. I've also been slightly annoyed at the bot posts because it's just a firehose of content without any interaction. However, for the useful info subs, I think its a small price to pay to make sure that information is propagated outside of reddit's servers.
This is the correct answer for those that are curious. I've blocked any bot that just crossposts links because it's just not what I want to see here on Lemmy and my experience has been far better. The auto crossposts rarely have any level of discussion on them which is what drives the platform.
