On this day in 1837, Africans and Native Americans who had formed Florida's Seminole Nation decisively defeated an invading U.S. force more than twice their size, led by slaveowner and future U.S. president Zachary Taylor.
Since the founding of the U.S., escaped African slaves had settled in modern-day Florida. At the same time, Seminoles suffering under Creek rule in Alabama and Georgia were fleeing south to seek independence. There, the two groups formed an alliance, sharing cultivation techniques and putting up armed resistance against colonization and slaver forces.
The U.S. repeatedly invaded territory controlled by this alliance, and, on Christmas Day in 1837, 380 to 480 Seminole fighters gathered on the northeast corner of Florida's Lake Okeechobee ready to halt the armies of Colonel Zachary Taylor, a Louisiana slaveholder and future U.S. president.
Seminole riflemen waited for the soldiers in trees, firing on them from above. The battle was a decisive defeat for U.S. forces, however Taylor falsely claimed a victory when returning to Fort Gardner.

I've been journaling albums and songs I listen to and i realized i can just do it here and force you guys to skim read it. I struggle to listen to this stuff but journaling is a good way to listen critically and be involved while listening.
Ben Webster was a Jazz Saxophonist who played with Duke Ellington. He has a very distinct tone and style. But I don't really like saxophone players so I can't say much about it besides he's a stylist, very breathy and fufufufufu...y .
Oscar Peterson and Ray Brown are some of the best jazz musicians to ever do it. Ed Thigpen left the US and lived in like Denmark/Norway for the rest of his life because they're not as racist and terrible as the US. He also didn't swear and would tell other people to stop when they did.
First Listen: Ben Webster Meets Oscar Peterson - The Touch of Your Lips
0:00-0:17
Eight bar intro with some classic Ray Brown phrases. Not sure if this is a blues or not yet.
Head
Two feel upfront, A sections are 8 bars, B sections 8 bars, last A is 8. Normal AABA form. Many jazz songs are 32 bars in an AABA form. A = Melody 1, B = Melody 2.
Ben webster First Chorus:
Ben Webster is not a notey player like Charlie Parker and John Coltrane which I appreciate it. I wish more saxophonist would be banned from listening to Parker and Coltrane and be interested in other musicians.
BW Second Chorus:
Is Oscar Peterson and Ray Brown so amazing that they can make anyone sound good? Ben Websters tone sounds good with Oscar Petersons tone. A lot of old old jazz language.
BW Third Chorus:
Ben Webster has a lot of different colors.
Oscar Peterson first Chorus:
Oscar can throwdown but hes showing restraint. This tune has something bluesy about it, I wish I knew harmony better.
Second Chorus:
First few bars OP is quoting something here, I can't remember what it is. Quartal language in B section.
Ray Brown First Chorus:
He opens with THE ray brown lick. Ed Thigpen might be playing brush on the cymbal for his solo.
Ben Webster/Trade 4 with Ed Thigpen:
B section trade has the classic Ed Thigpen language that I like.
I wish Ray Brown didn't walk over the drum bits.
Second B starts to feel uncomfortable it sounds like they're having a hard time trying to agree to land it back into the head.
Head back in
Ending was a little uncomfortable.

second listen same song:

Listening to bass and drum hook up.
ET = Ed Thigpen, drums. RB = Ray Brown, bass. BW = Ben webster, sax OP = Oscar Peterson, piano.
Head:
Ed Thigpens skip beat is pretty wide.
BW First Chorus
They sound like they're just together and they're agreeing to play the beat in the exact same spot. I can't really tell who's playing ahead of who, likely RB.
Cool quarter note triplet figure played together by ET and oscar on the second A of BW's last chorus.
Ed Thigpen nice press roll into Oscar Peterson's solo.
OP First Chorus:
I feel like ET plays a really old school beat, I like how it has a little sparkle and bouncy jangle to it but I also feel like the skip beat plods a little bit and sometimes lead to him prioritizing the one and three instead of two and four.
ET Trading Fours:
There's something angular about how ET solos. He's doing something different from other guys. His last A on the first chorus sounds hesitant and it feels like he's running out of ideas on the last chorus.

fuck this tune is This can't be love not the touch of ur lipshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IphIHPRn37I
This is the first litsen of Touch of Yours Lips
Head: First A BW - vhvhvh ff-f-f-f-f-f Second A BW- vhvhvhvhvh f-f-f-f-fffff
is this 16 bars? i didnt get it the first time through
BW solo:
I feel like the rhythm section struggling to make his last few chorus's interesting. He's palying some old ass shit and they can't really syncopate too much without it feeling weird.
OP solo:
Ray Brown is definitely ahead of Ed Thigpen this time around.
RB solo: Is the form AABC?
BW Head out?
he's just blowing over the first two As? Oh no they reset the form after that.

Close, the form is like ABAB'.
