Why does it feel better, mentally and physically to hold a mug by the body rather than the handle that’s literally built into the thing, designed explicitly for holding?

I won't if it's about weight/centre of gravity. Holding a full mug by the handle is more effort and less comfortable.

Plus my fingers don't get all toasty warm.
