Why does it feel better, mentally and physically to hold a mug by the body rather than the handle that’s literally built into the thing, designed explicitly for holding?

Because it's like giving a soothing, warm thing a hug? I definitely prefer holding a mug by the handle though.

I sometimes hold by the handle but tend to find I hold the body more, maybe 80:20

I've been testing this morning. I think it depends on where the handle is pointing and which hand I'm lifting the cup with. I'm looking at 80:20 in favour of the body.
