I currently have an Asus RT-AX86U as my primary router with three (3) Asus AX Mini XD4s completing the mesh network. Two (2) of the XD4 satellites are upstairs providing coverage to that space. All are backhauled.

Curious if replacing the upstairs XD4s with another RT-AX86U (it becomes the upstairs satellite, also backhauled) would increase speeds/range/etc.? Generally speaking, I don't have issues with speed or stability but wouldn't mind increase range to a couple of spots outside the home.

Or, would this be a waste of money any improvement might be negligible?

Thanks.

It really depends on what your client devices are/ how many clients you have.

Not many clients support 4x4 mimo or 160 mhz channels widths (the main difference between the xt4's and the ax86u) I also can not confirm if those fesrures would work with ai mesh. To get better signal outside i would add another access point there rather than teybto upgrade inside.
