Is there a trick to the "Last Stand" event you find in caves/dungeons? (lemmy.fmhy.ml)

It's the event where you find an injured adventurer and two of their companions. They want you to protect them from the waves of enemies but they get melted within the first 10 seconds or so no matter how much I clear the waves. I'm lvl 56 playing T3 and I'm using a melee rogue with really good AoE damage.

Is there a trick to luring the enemies away from the survivors and towards me?

I don't think there's a trick. Even if you kill the enemies really fast the NPC's seem to be dropping from some AOE splash dmg or they stumble and suffer from a fatal ankle sprain. Let's face it, these people are too soft for sanctuary. Even if you saved them in this even they'd get shredded 5 minutes later. Lilith was right all along.
