China and Greenpeace vs scientists. I'll believe the scientists everytime.

Panic about Fukushima radiation is way overblown. One person died from radiation, a plant worker, days after the accident. There has been no big long term spike in cancer, either. Meanwhile many people died trying to evacuate who might have been safer if they sheltered in place. And 2k died from the tsunami. But what do people remember about Fukushima? Radiation! Nuclear is bad!

I was there during the disaster and I'll just say that radiation is terrifying. You know that it's all around you, but you can't sense it in any way. That's a special kind of fear.

I’m sure. And the government had a bias for action that led them to order evacuation. Evacuation isn’t terrifying, right? Well, unless you are elderly or in an ICU or there is already a flood and natural disaster in progress... They killed a lot of people with that fear based decision.

You're talking to a disabled person. You're just doing a different sort of fear-mongering.

Did I say something to offend you on the basis of your disability? That wasn’t my intention. It’s a historical fact that more people perished because of the evacuation order than from the radiation . You can read all about it here:

I know all of that, but thank you for sharing it anyway. To be honest, you did. Your wording implied that I wasn't one of those so severely impacted or that I somehow didn't understand the gravity of the situation for the elderly and disabled.

I know that wasn't your intention, but it's an emotional subject for me.

Well I'm sorry for playing any part in that. You had just told me you were there so I knew you had direct knowledge of the event and didn't presume to tell you you didn't.

if you ask these people what background radiation is they mostly just stare at you with huge bambi eyes.
