Lobbying the church instead of the government. That's a new one. Or a really, really old one.

    Whether it's really old or really new, the picture of industry lobbies lining up at the Vatican is surely idiosyncratic. It probably made sense in feudalism as one of the only institutions which could grapple with the monarchs, but in late imperialism, it comes across as "There is literally no more juice to squeeze from the republic" levels of corruption.
