That's actually how diabetes diagnoses worked. And diabetes mellitus just means sweet piss.

    Not quite. It more means water passes right though you and tastes sweet. Compare that to diabetes insipidus where you're pissing out massive amounts of undiluted pee with no taste whatsoever. It's also another fucking annoying example of mixing Greek and Latin, with diabetes coming from Greek meaning to pass through/siphon and mellitus using a Latin suffix. But that's pretty much medicine naming in general.

    I remember hearing somewhere that they used to make the residents / apprentices do it, but I'm not sure how sensationalist that was. Either way residency hasn't changed much in spirit and that's why I went to nursing school. The amount of doctors that think being hazed for six years entitles them to assholery isn't huge but is also nonzero (nursing school is also hazing just only for 2 years and no 72h shifts).
