Birds are ancestors of dinosaurs. They were warm blooded, any split with reptiles happened long since. Jesus Christ.

Birds are descendants of dinosaurs.

It doesn't make sense to talk of "splits" unless you presume a cladistic view, which I explicitly did not. The point of a split is ill-defined unless you're talking about a clade.
