Some people might go into the comments section for additional context, but most won't. And very few are going to actually fact-check it like I did. The meme itself, which has the most visibility, is essentially saying, "Even though Trump put more money into the military, our ships still look like this." There is intentionally no context in the meme itself. That's the problem I'm criticizing. The photograph may be real, but the way it is presented encourages people to draw a connection between Trump's military spending and the cosmetic condition of the ship without providing the context necessary to support that conclusion. permalink fedilink source parent
