However, I've never encountered mould or a landlord that wouldn't make appropriate repairs. Lived in large and small cities in 4 provinces. I can say with great certainty that this rental scenario (depicted in OP) is very common in any conservative managed or low income areas. The landlord had done precisely jack shit for those three years. They kept getting lung conditions and stuff, and my friend tried to clean it himself, but it always came back. Then one day his wife had a series of strokes during a particularly intense bout of the chronic lung shit they all got when the weather was wet. She's blind now. Suffered brain damage. Different personality, loss of cognitive ability, an irate shell of her former self. This woman who once had a 200 grand job in the Commonwealth public service. The marriage did not survive. My friend is now looking after his kid mostly as a single dad in a smaller but mold-free apartment in a cheaper suburb.
