Is nothing sacred?

Serious question: is this like how they were reporting every single minor airplane mishap for a few months, creating the appearance of an increase in accidents, or is there a genuine uptick?

There has been a 400-500% increase in food recalls over baseline in the past year. Most of the recalls in the past year have been health and safety related recalls for foods that can cause harm or death.

In previous years, the majority of recalls were related to improper labeling or missed inspections, but did not actually mean the food was dangerous to consume.

This is a genuinely huge uptick in both the prevalence and severity of "accidents."

I assume it's that. I shared the article because it's about tofu (which is unexpected and funny) plus I thought it was breaking news but it turned out it's not.

there's probably a way to look at old food recalls, either on the fda website or wayback machine.

there's probably some blogger comparing the current thing to less late stage years

i know a guy on a discord i'm in who has been posting any food recall alerts he comes across for years, and based on the frequency of his PSAs i don't think these are occurring much more frequently than they were, say, 3 years ago
