CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Tofu was recalled in 29 states [because] it may be contaminated with ink. According to a recall enforcement report from the Food and Drug Administration, over 10,000 cases of tofu produced by Hodo and sold in 29 states were recalled because they made be chemically contaminated by ink. The specific product affected by the recall is: "hodo CHILI CRISP LIGHTLY FRIED TOFU. NET WT 8oz., UPC 850565007842".

There has been a 400-500% increase in food recalls over baseline in the past year. Most of the recalls in the past year have been health and safety related recalls for foods that can cause harm or death.

In previous years, the majority of recalls were related to improper labeling or missed inspections, but did not actually mean the food was dangerous to consume.

This is a genuinely huge uptick in both the prevalence and severity of "accidents."
