Gray baby syndrome is a rare, life-threatening adverse reaction that occurs in newborns and premature infants due to toxicity from the antibiotic Chloramphenicol.

The baby metabolism can't process a particular antibiotic properly, which (depending on the accrued concentration) causes cell damage in liver, bones and cardiac muscles.
