United Kingdom
General community for news/discussion in the UK.
Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.
Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.
Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
In Canada we have the same issue with the CBC.
The CBC also deserves criticism especially for its coverage of Israel, but the majority of the criticism comes from the right wing about CBC's "bias".
Now the CBC is biased, it is a liberal institution that ultimately works to reinforce the state, but that's not the claim from the right wing. The claim from the right wing is that the CBC is a left wing institution that cannot be trusted.
With those people and criticisms, this is absolutely a move to erode trust in the public broadcaster, dismantle it, and allow fully privatised media like the USA. People like Rupert Murdoch and other billionaires in media absolutely want this. They want the mainstream right wing propaganda outlets to be the "default" (SKY news, etc in the UK) and smaller, hard right outlets to be the alternative.
The UK is facing privatisation of the NHS and multiple other institutions right now, you should expect that they're working to privatise the BBC. For all the BBCs faults, public broadcasters are absolutely a force for (not good maybe) moderation in media. They should continue to exist, and they should be improved to further moderate/improve all media.
