General community for news/discussion in the UK.
Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.
Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.
Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
As a long-time radio nerd and devotee of the various BBC radio networks, I have to draw a thick, thick line between BBC broadcast and BBC news.
The news side of things is hateful. Jiving away in the kitchen to Craig Charles' Funk & Soul show, having a good time, then BOOM! a news headline about what Reform will do when they're in power. There's no reason to parrot those awful racist pricks, and they're are far more important stories, but BBC news thinks this is what we should hear. Literally the only time I ever hear about 'small boats' is when BBC news takes the time to tell me about how many of them there are while I'm trying to enjoy some good radio.
The BBC isn't perfect, I know this. But you only have to compare British and American broadcasting to see that it's pretty much the only thing stopping our TV and radio from becoming the same level of dog shit as they have in the States.
