Nielsen used to have quite respectable leading man career before AIrplane. People were legit shocked when he played Dr. Rumack because he never seemed to be the guy with the comedy chops. And then it became his whole thing.

I think the thing is he never became recognizable as a name/face to me till airplane.

he was a known commodity that showed up here and there but not really a household name before Airplane
