I have a thing for purple mushrooms enough to have a tattoo of C. violaceus. I am pretty sure I have the ID right but I could not get myself to cut this guy down and bring home, it was too pretty.

Also if any bolete boys have some input on this big guy I would appreciate it.

I am leaning toward edulis complex but I am not sure. This is NW Indiana as well.

I tried plugging what I could from your pictures into my bolete book and you may wish to consider Boletus nobilissimus or similar. I assume no bruising or staining anywhere, and you found it in mixed hardwoods.

Nice pull! This matches exactly. Online seems to have little information on this guy's range which was my only concern from me, from wiki "with distribution limits unknown". As usual it seems like there are more questions then answers with mushroom species.

I am going to call it and grab some for dinner. This is my first time trying something in the King Bolete complex so I am pumped. Thanks so much for the help.
