Confirming paw paw. I ate so many last fall I got sick for days. I love paw paw and make a ice cream out of them every year.

I have paw paw seeds out the ass and already vernalized. If anyone is actually interested I can send you some.

I came across a big dryads saddle today. I got Shep in there for scale, I would say it is about .25 sheps in diameter.

The other thing I love about these mushrooms is the trippy underside(I forgot to grab a video). Then I swear they smell like a watermelon rind when you cut into them but my wife argues against, so I could use a decider here. As always hope you all are enjoying the weather and get a chance to be in nature.

While I love any AK type gun with wood furniture, the passenger seat is concerning coming from a civilian.

They look like Mica caps(Coprinellus micaceus) to me. Were they sparkly by chance?

Nope, these guys are a choice edible. You are probably thinking of gyromitra genus.

I have been finding lots of these guys over the past week.

When I first started hunting for morels I researched how to identify trees based of bark so I could hunt under the elms, tulips, sycamores, etc. what I ended up finding out is mushrooms grow where mushrooms want, rules of thumb be damned.

This patch here was 30 feet away from the closest tree and at that they were pines. Morels cannot be stopped apparently. Happy hunting folks.

Rhodesian FAL is on my dream list. I love those guns.

I already own some rugby shorts so I am 50% there.

This is another genus I never looked deeply into so others are welcome to chime in. If I had to guess I would go with brunnea over caroliniana but that is off memory so who knows.

The one thing I do know is that morels come shortly after I start seeing these guys. I already found ramps so just need to check morels off. Hope spring has arrived for you guys as well.

This is a staple of Menards. When I die I hope I wake up in a Menards store front, smelling cut pine with a Sprechers in my hand.

Scarlet Elf Cup (thelemmy.club)

These are some of the first mushrooms to pop around me in spring. The red is always a welcome sight. Not great for eating but I have put them in salads more so for color then them actually tasting good.

A local store around me has one for the low price of 15k, what a bargain!

Beautiful picture. My car setup if my handheld on my dash and a USB feeding it power if it needs to recharge. It has worked well for me

One addition, you do not have to break the bank on any of this. If you are tech savvy and can do basic soldering I would suggest piecing your nodes together yourself. If you are looking at the 100 dollar solar nodes you can do that for much much cheaper yourself with a bit of work.

I am in a similar scenario as you are living in a more rural location. I started with hand held devices that I would take in my car to see if it was worthwhile to continue exploring. I ended up finding many people around me but I could not reach them from my house. I ended up using an old TV antenna at my house to run a node up on that gave me access to my broader community. I live in the flat Midwest so went with a high DB antenna and it has worked great.

My thoughts are nix the dedicated car based module and go straight to a high location after hand held. Height is king for Meshtastic.

My last note is be aware of antennas you use as higher DB is not always the best. Higher DB means the sensitivity of the antena becomes flatter and more perpendicular to the horizon(in standard installations) where as lower DB radiates in a big bubble.

So if you are in very mountainous terrain very high DB antennas are not always best as they do not handle elevation changes great but rather blast out to the horizon which may not be useful. Also if you have a hill blocking you, your are out of luck. Think of Meshtastic as basically line of sight.

If you have any questions fire away and I can share what I know, I am not an expert by any means but I have got my hands dirty.
