I didn't watch but for me therapy fell a little flat because the therapist was so assuring me that I was a good person in various capacities. This stranger who only had my side of the story was asserting that I was doing the right things and should feel good about them. I couldn't find such an opinion credible, and felt like all they were doing were things I could say to myself but even less credible than me. External reassurances from a stranger trying to override my self doubt just kind of backfired.
It probably works for other kinds of issues, but didn't really do much for me.
My therapist was very good at asking questions that made me really think about my actions and feelings and why I believed they were right or wrong and we discussed that. I found that helpful because some things I thought were definitely not healthy.
Well while your experience may speak to some people it's not what the video is about. The video is about people that try to analytically solve their own problems without facing the emotions attached to those problems. Basically using cognitive behavioral therapy on themselves to pretend like the problem is solved without the typical result of CBT which is more emotional than the step-by-step nature of the process.
I had therapists like this but then I finally found a therapist who just got really curious about why I felt that way, what else I felt, what I'd think of others who feel that way, etc etc just really digging quite well into the feeling with various angles etc and all the while trying to notice and point out when I seem to get overwhelmed or worked up about something. That kind of observation and exploration helped me greatly.
