We finally found him! John Openworld! The core reason why game devs keep making every game into an open world!

I have a question I always wanted to ask. Is it more important for the world to be deep or wide? More side content or more to navigate?

I do prefer content to be distributed in central hubs with fast transportation between them. I don't like fast travel, I want to be the one moving. I want to play the first spiderman game because of that.

If you want a deep world, you should use the dark souls formula using branching paths with a defined beginning and ending.

Open world is for 3 good missions in each central location and 100 fetch quest I will not do

What about a system like the Like a Dragon franchise, where it's a small open area flush with things to do?

Haven't played any of them yet but I would like to. It would depend on what you can do in those areas. If it is like for example assassins creed without traversal between cities I would enjoy it.

Nothing that grandiose. Sounds like you're mostly in it for the traversal. Did you play Mirror's Edge 2?

I didn't, my pending games list is extensive and you are matching every one. Currently I am playing Nier Automata, after that I will play Mirror's Edge because I understand it is a relatively short game

Ah gotcha. How are you liking Nier so far? It's more of a spectical fighter than an open world traversal game.

I have gotten to the Forest Zone. The combat is pretty good, I like the combos and parry mechanics (even though sometimes I just mash dash to avoid attacks).

I also like the traversal style with the changing cameras switching from 2D to 3D. For now, the world is small enough that I could avoid fast travel and do multiple missions while going from one to another.

The drone is something I find superfluous, sometimes I forget shooting with it. Maybe with keyboard it is different.

I played the whole thing on controller. It sounds like you're still early in the game so the combat hasn't pushed you to play it like a twin stick yet. During certain bosses and especially after a spoiler will the drone become more useful and reveal mechanical depth you havent been exposed to yet. Give it time. That game is a treasure.
