Rules:
- Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.
Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.
Example:

- Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
- Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
- No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
- Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
- No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.
That's all the rules!

Yes, that’s right. I recently spoke with five friends of mine who are chief physicians and senior physicians in Spain, Switzerland, and Germany: They all agreed—the U.S. is no longer conducting scientific research; the CDC, which used to be a globally important institution because many countries followed its guidelines, no longer exists, since all competent staff who refused to go along with this absurdity were fired.
They are appalled at how quickly this decline was orchestrated by the Trump regime, especially since it took decades to reach an international consensus. All of them have lost all trust in U.S. institutions and believe that these inhumane policies will cost hundreds of thousands of lives worldwide.
The erosion of US soft power is the greatest gift Trump could give to Russia and China, it will take generations to recover, if ever. It’s not a crazy idea to start learning some Chinese if you work in a technical field.
Not to be a doomer, but I don't really expect it to ever fully recover. I can't really think of any other times in history when an Empire started to nose-dive like this and managed to fully get back to where it was TBH.
Honestly I don't even think the US will exist in 10 years, at least not to it's current extent.
10 sounds wildly optimistic imo
I usually give my more conservative upper limits on these types of things. Frankly I think all the powder is already in the keg and we're just waiting for a spark to send it off.
All according to the Republican plan
While that may be true for some I think most of them are just stupid, actually correction all of them are stupid since if the US collapses it'll most likely nuke a lot of their wealth and a lot of their plans will go down with the ship, note im directly thinking of the stupid ass network city state thing that fuckwits like Thiel dragged out of the drug fueled delirium these morons seem to reside in.
Some of the very wealthy hope to live in some weird version of The Sovereign Individual authors' vision and/or Curtis Yarvin's.
With or without (extreme) wealth, if their vision were to really come to pass, I'm quite sure it might not end up the way they imagine.
I don't think Russia plays much of a role here, but yes, absolutely: Trump and his henchmen are, in my opinion, merely accelerating the decline of the U.S.
This former superpower is clearly on its last legs, as too many resources have been embezzled—as is typical in oligarchies. Therefore, aggression is all that remains for it, since its bloated military apparatus is the only thing left, alongside the IT sector, which is currently dismantling itself for the very same reasons that led to this situation.
China is also a misanthropic autocracy, but the policies of its leaders are nonetheless far-sighted, forward-looking, and skillful, which is why China is already the superpower that the U.S. once was (albeit it's glory was bought on credit after WWII).
Europe’s future, in my view, depends on whether it will be possible to shake off the influence of the U.S. and its disastrous turbo-capitalism. Unfortunately, it does not look that way, because in the strongest European countries, neo-capitalist forces are still at work, whose maxim is now turning into fascism precisely because their approach is no longer competitive in today’s world.
Either way, dark times are ahead for science—and, consequently, for humanity as well.
If it can be built it can rebuild so the “ if ever “ isn’t a useful comment. It’s exhausting when people say that.
What is useful is that it could take a long ass time for sure.
Do the dems want it to recover? Or even more on point, does Israel want it recover? I dont think they really do.
