you just get lower quality these days; it's the same with so many other items. a pair of gap jeans was the same price in the late 90s as it is now even with a doubled minimum wage in NY.

My partner still has functional socks and underwear from the 90's. Last pair of the sturdiest pants in the store ripped irreparably after three washes. To say things are 'just' a bit lower quality is quite the understatement.
