And if I'm a windows normie that's sick of windows windowing, I'll be fine using mint... Right? Y'all are good at making this sound very complex.
Mint is perfect for exactly that purpose. There's a daunting marketplace of alternatives all with different specialties. Mint's specialty is being as easy and newbie friendly as possible. Out of the box - it just works - etc.
It's easier just recommending the distro rather than Linux in general.
I know someone who was starting to dislike windows, I sent them the Linux mint site. Had a much more positive interaction compared to when I had just previously said "what about using Linux?"
I actually think this is a similar way to push the fediverse. Just recommend a good instance instead of trying to sell them on federated technology. The federated technology will show them content and "how does this actually work" could be a conversation for later.
That sounds like a good approach, actually.

Fwiw, this isn't really aimed at people who are just dipping their toes in. Enthusiasts in any field can sound insane from the outside in
Mint is super nice for people that don't like linux stuff. I use it in my workstations and most don't even know they are on linux.
Mint is meant for beginners and folk who just want an OS, not a hobby.
Another to check out is ZorinOS. Same deal as Mint, but looks wise is closer to modern Windows and is also designed to make it very easy to run windows programs in Linux.
I use zorin on a desktop and Mint on a laptop. Both are fantastic. I also use Ubuntu server (no GUI) for my home webserver, and it's really good (but I'll never use uwubuntu for a desktop OS again)
My setups are complicated (from a new user's perspective, anyway) because I want to have things work in very specific ways. I used to use Mint, it's pretty great at what it does and you can still do hacky stuff with it if you so choose.
