It's highly likely they have huge salaries to go along with it. There are worse ways to spend your time.

Maybe, but you'd be surprised how many shitty, low paying shops exist out there that pull stupid shit.

A few of my graduates went to one locally where they did not have a single version control system setup. Granted this was about 10 years ago but 2016 was still in an era where they should have known better.

You had a fuckton of newbies and non-coders who schmoozed into positions basically live editing prod.

I have an “innovation award” trophy from my last job sitting on my office bookshelf.

The alleged innovation was rolling out git to track the DB schema backing mission-critical operations, in the year 2021.

(It was a government job btw.)

Before git, you created the branch folders when starting SVN projects, and then never used them, because no one knew how to branch and merge and the ones who tried it had PTSD.
