There might be some third-party version of Android you could put onto it that'd keep you more up to date? I'm not really sure, as I've never had a phone last that long with a usable battery, so I've never tried.
Would likely end up with broken safetynet then, so not really worth the hassle. Ironically, staying on an out of date stock ROM is more preferable for my bank than staying up to date and safe...

Samsung s10+. Very out of date, but 100% functional, so I am very hesitant to just create ewaste for the sake of it.
