Most developed countries already do this, it's called "social housing"
Technically I believe the US does it as well. Just all funded so poorly they hit a very negligible portion of the people that need it.

so if it's a minority (big if), we should just say fuck them? they cant afford housing but people who already have a house (or two...) might be upset that there are fewer homeless people, so let's not do anything at all.
