I really think a significant amount of the evangelical wild turn is tied to the perceived success of Donald and a prosperity gospel belief that success is vindicating. I don't see these people sticking with this form of Christianity if the US starts facing undeniable humiliation.
Ah but you forget, if they are successful, it's because god loves them, but if someone else isn't successful, it's because they're an evil sinner, BUT if they aren't successful, it's because Satan is ruining things for them, probably via allowing minorities to exist.
Also if someone else is successful it might be because they are making deals with Satan.
1/3 of the US is going to pay $8/gallon at the pump, file bankruptcy for the family business tariffs destroyed, cheer on a gestapo being unkind to the foreigner (Leviticus 19:34 ), and personally watch Trump pilot the economy and empire straight into a ditch, and still say dumb shit like "God is punishing us because disney lesbians".
it's been over 100 years since the 7th day adventist prediction was wrong. don't underestimate the ability of religious freaks to keep believing stupid shit even when their faces are rubbed in it.
