First of all, a lot of problem drinkers bring their car keys to bars and use them to get home. This is not a novel phenomenon, it's been well documented for decades.

Second of all, plenty of people keep a key to their place on the same keyring as their car key, so even if they're traveling to and from the bar responsibly they might have their car keys on their person.

I have never drunk drove, but I always had my car keys with me as my house keys were on the same ring. Bus route 761 for the win

Oh, sorry. I'm not from the US, so your first point is really foreign to me.

For the second point, some people gather all their keys together, but for most instances, keeping car keys and other keys separate reduces risk of loosing your most valuable keys, as most people I know, me included, either has a smart lock to their apartments or has a neat place for it around their home. Why risk losing a valuable key for a night of fun, so keep keys away from fun times.

Oh sorry, I forgot that the US is the only country on the planet that has both alcohol and motor vehicles. My bad.

And for your second point... Oh sorry, I forgot that your personal anecdotal experiences supersedes the reality of other people's habits. My bad.
