Always has been. Don't let the "good ones" convince you that there's some redeeming quality to Christianity.

[-] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 21 points 4 weeks ago

Or to any religion, for that matter

But Sikhs though. \s

I made a catholic friend who had me convinced that maybe there was something to Christianity. It was an illusion, there is no God, and all religion does is convince you to hurt yourself and others under the delusion that an imaginary invisible man in the sky will make it up to you in the afterlife.

But the truth is there is no afterlife, neurology has completely debunked the idea of a soul.

Sucks, I really wish there was an afterlife, but this is all we get. All spirituality is, is longing for an afterlife where you get a spirit guide and super powers...... It's nonsense, you wait for it and you'll waste your only time with which you will ever get to exist.

I miss the concept of an afterlife the most, when some shithead like Lindsey Graham assumes room temperature. I would love to feel the satisfaction of knowing they are being dragged to Hell in terror, but alas, I know that isn't the case.

I'm still pleased they are gone, and can't do any more destruction, but my schadenfreude is somewhat limited.

Part of me feels like an afterlife should exist, but I know that's just cope.

Source for what?

[-] SnoopSqueak@lemmy.today 1 points 1 week ago

We have functioning senses and the ability to reason.

No god has ever been demonstrated. Why should anyone believe in one? Same with souls.

As for the guilt-based manipulation towards violence, source: the bible. Source: history. Source: ICE executing people in the streets without trial as an arm of a christofascist regime, the "department of war" praying to the christian god for overwhelming violence against their enemies, etc.

Please stop ignoring the flaws. Stop pretending there's a magic abuser in the sky we all must submit to. It is psychotic. It is killing us.

Pope Leo XIV has condemned ICE and the fascist american regime.

God has performed a multitude of miracles

Pope Leo XIV has condemned ICE and the fascist american regime.

And gay people, and abortions.

God has performed a multitude of miracles

But none we can verify? Why doesn't he want us to believe in him? Surely it would be trivial for an all-powerful being to demonstrate his existence. All we have instead is humans saying "trust me, bro." No.

He has condemned the sin of homosexuality and the sin of murder.

Sin isn't real. He's condemning homosexuals while pretending to care.

The Schachles were certain their prayers to Father McGivney resulted in God curing their son of the condition that almost certainly would have killed him before he was born or shortly after.

Lucky! Not magic.

After assuring the record is in the proper canonical form, it is reviewed by a panel of medical experts, practicing physicians and medical professors in Rome, who aren’t necessarily religious, Caulfield said. With their review complete, “one day in Rome, they get together and cast their votes. Is this a miracle or not, can we explain this or not,” Caulfield said.

Truth is not decided by vote.

Do we have any insight as to how they determined, medically, that a miracle had taken place? Or is it another black box that the church suspiciously does not want to share the contents of?

It's a complicated condition: https://biologyinsights.com/what-affects-the-hydrops-fetalis-survival-rate/

The survival rate for hydrops fetalis is highly variable. Overall, the prognosis can be poor, with historical survival rates often cited as low as 10-20%. However, advancements in diagnosis and treatment have led to improvements in outcomes. Despite progress, the condition still carries significant risks of stillbirth or death shortly after birth.

I would be curious to know more about his particular case.

As for the scales:

the Vatican's Consulta Medica confirmed the cure was instantaneous, complete, lasting, and scientifically inexplicable.

Where is this evidence?

the biological impossibility of genetic reversal is the forensic core.

I would love to see evidence that this is what happened.

It's also a known phenomenon: https://scienceinsights.org/do-genes-change-over-time-what-actually-happens/

Because epigenetic marks are added and removed by enzymes, lifestyle changes can push them in the other direction. In a randomized controlled trial, an 8-week program combining dietary changes, 30 minutes of daily exercise, sleep optimization, and twice-daily relaxation breathing was associated with a 3.23-year decrease in epigenetic age compared to the control group. That’s a measurable reversal of biological aging in just two months.

As for the heat she felt, that is a common symptom of her condition, the thick skin is less efficient at releasing sweat. I find it an interesting case, but I am still not convinced a miracle took place.

[-] IAMgROOT@lemmy.wtf 0 points 1 week ago

sin is real

The miraculous cure is yet to be explained. Genes don't suddenly change in a moment. And the voice? It perfectly lined up with the heat.

And a committee of researchers vote on something being a miracle or not, that's rational as a council of researchers should be determining if somethings explained by modern science or not

[-] SnoopSqueak@lemmy.today 1 points 1 week ago

sin is real

It's not. Bring an argument instead of asserting bullshit with no evidence.

The miraculous cure is yet to be explained. Genes don't suddenly change in a moment. And the voice? It perfectly lined up with the heat.

Heatstroke is my first guess. I would love to get more information on her case. Are there ongoing studies? When will they be published?

And a committee of researchers vote on something being a miracle or not, that's rational as a council of researchers should be determining if somethings explained by modern science or not

No. What they should do is publish their findings in detail so that other researchers can verify.

I mean I'm not the least bit fond of any religion, but a lot of Americans are into the prosperity gospel stuff that has little to do with the other Christian cults like Catholicism or Lutheranism.

The whole "God rewards good people with health and wealth" thing is an American concept, not a Christian concept.

[-] SnoopSqueak@lemmy.today 9 points 4 weeks ago

What about Job, who was rewarded with 7 times what he lost because he trusted god? Including his children. The old ones were still dead, but he was blessed with new ones.

Christianity is rotten from beginning to end. It's significantly worse than most people seem to realize.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 3 points 4 weeks ago

That's just a story to make people not lose hope when the government or some Sociopathic Oligarch takes everything from them. It teaches weak- minded people to accept being screwed over because God will reward you as compensation for your loss.

Except God won't reward you, that was just some story you were sold so you would just accept your inevitable screwing over without organizing a revolution.

God isn't coming to save you. We have to do that ourselves. Also: He isn't on their side either, no matter how much they insist he is. They lie.

[-] SnoopSqueak@lemmy.today 6 points 4 weeks ago

The bible is an inconsistent mess that can "justify" whatever someone thinks god wants.

Christianity is a death cult. Baseless claims should not be accepted or tolerated, all life depends on the reality that defines us. Magical thinking is deadly. Humanity must mature or it will self-destruct.

In other words, please stop defending christianity at all. They'll kill you and tell everyone you deserved it. They'll go through the whole narcissist's prayer over your corpse: we didn't do it; if we did, it wasn't that bad; if it was, you brought it on yourself.

Take a stand for truth and life. Thank you.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 3 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Christianity is more than a just a Death Cult. Death is a normal part of life, but Christianity's core beliefs worship Torture, Human Sacrifice, Cannibalism, Violent Imaginary Friends that direct your every move, Mass Murder, the comstant threat of an eternity of fiery torture, and Zombies. Their actual logo is a human sacrifice on an ancient torture device. It also has an insatiable need for money. No matter how much it collects, it is NEVER enough, and always needs MORE. Much more.

Christianity isn't a Death Cult, it's a Horror Cult.

Imagine if someone knocked on your front door, and pitched Christianity from that perspective? They'd get rounded up by the cops pretty quickly.

[-] QueenHawlSera@piefed.social 3 points 4 weeks ago

Give it a rest, there's no redeeming qualities to Christianity. I went down that path too, thinking "Oh maybe it's beneficial if you do it the right way." or "Maybe it isn't so abhorrent if you interpret it correctly."

There's no God, the faster you accept it the better off you'll be.
