It's quite remarkable what a directed strategy of open source OS development can achieve in a short timeframe across various industrial sectors when profit imperative is not the primary focus. The opportunity cost of avoiding China's leadership in open tech development will likely be immense to the "international community".
For sure, as China keeps pulling ahead we'll see world standards gravitate towards Chinese tech, and the west will start becoming a hermit kingdom.
