I'll never understand anti lgbtq+ people. They absolutely think you can catch gay, and it's the most maddening, sort of hilarious, mostly depressing thing.

Even more depressing? The vast majority of those hardcore bigots think that because they personally feel the pull to the gay when they see gay things.....and so when a bigoted dude sees Ryan Gosling and gets a tingly pee pee, he assumes that it must be possible to catch gay because he is "catching it". It's why so many bigots are found to be doing the things they profess to hate. It's why Grindr explodes when a republican conference is in town. It's why trans porn is so popular in red states.

How fucking sad is that?

Being in a supportive environment and seeing LGBTQ+ people having happy free lives makes people more willing to explore their own identity. So it kind of spreads that in way

Often the people who have the absolute least contact with LGBT people (or none at all) are the ones who complaint the loudest. We all piss and moan about the people who actually know, but you can only hate and fear the unknown this much. Only a rube moron can possibly think that having a gay guy live in your town means you better be ready to have the sailor from The Village People grinding and twerking on you everywhere you go. For the rest of us, it’s just “Who? You mean Dennis?”

The entirety of right wing ideology is built upon being a sad miserable piece of shit.

There are books you could write on the phenomenon, but I think this just about distills every concept down to the root of what it means to be part of it

the hardcore Christians think gayness is of the devil; you can be ensnared by it, and can also be freed from it.

it's all fear. they judge what they don't like and are terrified of anything they don't understand, and rationalize hate with a book about love.

It’s because they are closeted and won’t admit it to themselves. Because if THEY have gay feelings it must obviously be a choice
