This doesn't make sense, if it's to prevent theft then why would it only apply to some phones?
~~Because the phone technically still belongs to the company financing it out to a person until it is fully paid off, I suppose.~~
Edit: My bad. I misunderstood the "theft" part. Thought it was people using the phone "stealing" the phone to go to another service.
